Many are still confused with the requirements and process of renewing their broker license in Washington. So to break the confusion, here are the important details that you need to know in renewing your license.
License Expires Every Two Years
First things first, you need to renew your license every two years. Yup, that’s TWO YEARS, so don’t get confused with other state requirements.
For an easier process, you can apply for renewal 120 days before your license expires as long as you complete all requirements.
But what are those requirements that you need to prepare? Read further to know more.
Continuing Education Requirements
Compared to other states, Washington has a different CE requirement for first-time renewers over subsequent renewers. Let’s know the difference.
First Time Renewals
First time renewers are required to complete at least 90 hours of CE after the date of their first licensure which includes:
- 30-hour Advanced Practices Course
- 30-hour Real Estate Law Course
- 3-hour Core Course
- 27 hours Elective Courses Approved by the Washington State Department of Licensing.
Subsequent Renewals
On the other hand, subsequent renewers are required to accomplish 30 hours of CE with the following guidelines
- The course should comprise a 3-hour Core Course and 27-hour Elective Courses Approved by the Washington State Department of Licensing.
- 30-hour CE requirements which include the 3-hour Core Course should be completed within 48 months of your renewal date.
- 15 hours should be completed within 24 months of your renewal date
- 15 hours of unused CE completed within 48 months of your renewal date can be used as an addition to your current application.
SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account
Another requirement that you need to accomplish is to create an account for SAW which is needed to apply online.
To create an account, visit the Washington State Department of Licensing website.
Background Check
Legal Background Questions – Don’t worry. Just be honest in answering some personal information questions and prepare all the requirements needed.
Update Fingerprint – If your renewal prompts you to have a background check, then you’ll need to update your fingerprints before you can proceed with your application. For details regarding the process and fees, please click here.
